PHNOM PENH – On Saturday, UN Women in Cambodia will bring together more than 70 young women from Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos PDR, and Viet Nam for the Innovation for Impact (i4i) Ideathon.

The Ideathon is a three-day innovation workshop that gathers young women in an effort to transform personal insights into hundreds of ideas and build lasting regional networks around gender equality. The event aims to encourage and inspire young women to find innovative and tech-oriented solutions to challenge gender stereotypes and negative social norms imposed on women and girls.

“The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development cannot be achieved without first advancing gender equality. The Ideathon will help us to identify and implement solutions to achieve Goal 5 of the SDGs,” explained Sarah Knibbs, Country Representative a.i. of UN Women Cambodia Country Office.

UN Women in Cambodia engages young people in creating a fairer and more sustainable future. The ideathon is designed to provide a dynamic working environment where young women will feel comfortable to listen, to speak up, to exchange ideas and to address challenges faced by women and girls, in areas such as: Women’s Participation in the Workforce, Personal Safety (Sexual Harassment) in the Workplace, at school, and Higher Education for Girls.

“To fast-track gender equality, we need innovation and technology and young women need equal access to and control of these important tools to shape their future,” Knibbs emphasized.

“We hope that the ideas young women create together will contribute to transformation for gender equality and women’s empowerment”.
